View
Ruby red color, quite intense, with violet tones.
Nose
Delicate and fresh aromas of red fruit such as blackcurrants and blackberries. Sweet hints of roasted red pepper combined with notes of vanilla, cocoa, licorice, and spices. Very clean and intense.
Mouth
Full-bodied, with fine, smooth, and juicy tannins, resulting in ripe red fruit, with a very round and silky texture, and a long, fleshy finish. Excellent.
A delightful joint venture between Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and the Chilean winery Concha y Toro, located in Puente Alto, in the northernmost part of the Maipo Valley in central Chile. This partnership, initiated in 1996, aims to produce a first-rate or premium wine with a distinctly Bordeaux style in the Americas, featuring a notable contribution from the fresh Cabernet Sauvignon grape grown in the Andean country. Modern facilities, inaugurated in 2000, showcase the commitment to technology and quality that has been perfected for this first Chilean "Grand Cru."
Comment
The 2009 vintage is dominated by the generous contribution of Cabernet Sauvignon and finished with excellent touches of Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, and hints of Merlot, resulting in a very balanced, fruity, round, and approachable wine from the first sip. It's smooth, without any harshness or astringency, very velvety, and sublimely fresh and flavorful, without sacrificing an ounce of the power imparted by its eighteen months in new French oak barrels. Red meats like beef or veal are ideal pairings for this wine. Depending on the preparation, we'll experience its dominant flavors to varying degrees, but a good grilled beef steak on a bed of quinoa, drizzled with a subtle red pepper jus, is a bold approach to the Franco-Chilean style.
